Apricale showcased at Hydrogen For Life

Apricale on display outside London Science Museum at Hydrogen for Life

Monday 1 August, 2022

On 30 June 2022, the Apricale hypercar, a world-first in hydrogen powertrain innovation, was showcased at the Science Museum, London during Hydrogen for Life.

The annual event brought together over 900 industry professionals seeking to share knowledge, forge connections and shape the debate on the next steps for the UK’s Hydrogen Strategy. Viritech’s Apricale is a tangible demonstration of what this future will look like and, with the development of mule vehicles including a HGV in full swing, there is more to come.

In 2019, transport produced 27% of the UK’s total emissions.. This has fallen slightly in recent years due to advances in fuel efficiency and COVID travel restrictions but not enough to have a tangible impact on emissions output. As restrictions have eased, there’s little data on the real state of affairs in 2022.

Given the climate emergency, the race is on to develop maximised efficiency, zero-emissions, long-range, lightweight transport options to halt transport emissions in the future.

The Apricale emits only water and overcomes the engineering challenges inherent in developing hydrogen transport solutions. We believe that Apricale’s debut, alongside increasing public and private sector support for hydrogen supply chains and technology, heralds a bright future for hydrogen transportation.

Timothy Lyons, CEO of Viritech said, “We are excited by the speed at which Viritech is gaining recognition across the automotive industry for its groundbreaking advances in hydrogen powertrain technologies. Today’s announcement of this important MOU with Reaction Engines, demonstrates how we are also working increasingly with leading British companies to cement the UK’s position as the go-to supplier of hydrogen technologies for global OEMs and Tier-1s.”
